Interpreter (English, Russian)
Background:
UNODC is organizing 2 study tours to the United Kingdom (London and one of the regions) for groups of about 13-14 people each to provide them with an opportunity to familiarize with British HIV and drug prevention, treatment and care policies and practices and the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP).
The first group (technical level) – 24-27 October 2011 - will comprise representatives of law enforcement bodies from regions and senior managers of community based organizations working in the field of HIV prevention.
The second group (policy level) - 31 October - 4 November 2011 will comprise representatives of federal state bodies and high level regional authorities working in the field of HIV prevention, treatment and care as well as drug-related crime prevention.
In this regard UNODC is looking for a qualified interpreter and a translator. Candidates may apply for the whole period or for only one of the periods. The same person may apply to perform translation and interpretation.
Responsibilities:
- Provide English-Russian (mainly) and Russian-English consecutive interpretation during the study tours which will be tentatively held on 24-27 October 2011 (only London) and 31 October-4 November 2011 (London and one of the regions) - 9 working days.
- Provide English-Russian and Russian-English translation of the programme, presentations and other materials before and possibly during the study tour – about 3-4 working days.
Education
University degree in linguistics or philology with the specialization in English-Russian translation; familiarity with terminology in the legal, social and health fields, preferably related to crime prevention, drugs treatment and HIV prevention.
Work Experience
At least five years of professional interpreting experience, preferably for international organizations and state bodies. Relevant language experience within the UN System may be taken into consideration in meeting the requirements of this post.
Languages
A perfect command of Russian (expected to be the incumbent’s native language), a perfect command of English (expected to be the incumbent’s main foreign language).
Contracting
UNODC will issue a short term special service agreement for the specific tasks outlined in the Terms of Reference. The contractor will be offered the remuneration on a competitive and merit-system basis. The remuneration will be paid upon successful delivery of the services. Travel and accommodation in the UK are paid by UNODC according to its administrative procedures.
