VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT - Editor, “UN in Russia” Bulletin

Under the guidance of the National Information Officer, United Nations Information Centre, the UN Bulletin Editor shall coordinate the preparation, printing, and distribution of the “UN in Russia” Bulletin releases, thus delivering information on the UN activities, experiences, achievements, priorities and best practices to a wide range of audiences.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain efficient working relations with the UN Agencies and the Russian UN Association to ensure timely receipt of information/photos on the events that have taken place during the two-month period to be covered by the next UN Bulletin issue;
  • Keep track of the forthcoming UN-related events to attend and report on them;
  • Edit the materials for publication in English and in Russian and agree on the necessary changes with the respective UN Agencies;
  • When necessary, write news items, translate articles into/from English;
  • Interview visitors coming to the Russian Federation in connection with the UN-related activities and events, Heads of the UN Agencies in the RF and other staff;
  • Coordinate the layout of the Bulletin with the publisher;
  • Observe the production schedule of the Bulletin agreed with the UN agencies and the publisher;
  • Coordinate the timely distribution of the Bulletin according to the established list of addresses and update the distribution list, when necessary;
  • Ensure timely preparation and placing of the Internet version of the Bulletin on the UNDP and UN in Russia websites;
  • Prepare and distribute invoices to the participating UN Agencies to ensure the timely transfer of their contributions;
  • Report on all issues related to the preparation, printing or distribution of the UN Bulletin to UNIC;
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree in journalism, communication, international relations, political sciences or another relevant field.

Experience:

- A minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible professional experience;

- Proven writing, editing and journalistic experience (availability of professional portfolio is an asset);

-Good knowledge of the production process of a printed edition is highly desirable;

- Familiarity with the United Nations institutions and programmes both internationally and in the Russian Federation is an asset.

Language skills: Full proficiency in English and Russian (oral and written).

EVALUATION OF APPLICANTS

Individual applications will be evaluated based on a cumulative analysis taking into consideration the combination of the applicants’ qualifications and financial proposal.

The award of the contract should be made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

a) responsive/compliant/acceptable, and

b) having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation.

Technical Criteria – max 70 points. Including:

  • University degree in journalism, communication, international relations, political sciences or other relevant field - max 10 points.
  • A minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible professional experience - max 20 points;
  • Proven writing, editing and journalistic experience (availability of professional portfolio is an asset) - max 10 points;
  • Good knowledge of the production process of a printed edition is highly desirable - max 10 points;
  • Familiarity with the United Nations institutions and programmes both internationally and in the Russian Federation is an asset – max 10 points;
  • Full proficiency in English and Russian (oral and written) – max 10 points.

Financial Criteria – max 30 points.

The applicant with the highest score from technical criteria + financial criteria will be selected with the maximum score possible being 100 points.
