International Poster Competition 2017-2018
The International Poster Competition is a joint project of Yad Vashem and The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme and endorsed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. It is open to all organizations who wish to participate around the world.
Students of Art and Design from participating countries will be invited to submit original posters on the theme "Keeping The Memory Alive - Our Shared Responsibility” in keeping with the designated theme of the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme in 2018. A committee of international judges, comprising experts in both design and in Holocaust Education, will be appointed to select the best posters out of all those submitted.
The 12 highest ranking posters will enjoy high-profile display around the world. Prizes will be awarded for winning designs and the posters will be exhibited extensively, reaching thousands of people in dozens of countries.

December 2017 - Posters printed and distributed worldwide
27 January 2018 - Exhibition of posters opens in United Nations Headquarters, UNICs, Yad Vashem, partner organizations, IHRA countries
Organizational Responsibilities:
Participating organizations agree to undertake the necessary responsibilities.
Coordinating UNICs or local level organisers should appoint a panel of 3 judges for the first round of local competition. It is recommended that at least one judge be an expert in design and at least one judge an expert or educator on the Holocaust.
Yad Vashem, the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme and other sponsoring partners are responsible for appointing 3 judges to the international judging panel. It is recommended that at least one judge be an expert in design and at least one judge an expert on the Holocaust.
Eligibility:
The International Poster Competition is open to students and graduates of Graphics, Art, and Design. Entrants must be over age 18.
Entrants are encouraged to explore the resources on the sub-site created by Yad Vashem to create a poster for the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. www.yadvashem.org/education/internationalprojects. Please also visit www.un.org/holocaustremembrance.
Poster Creation:
• The designated theme for the 2017-18 competition is "Keeping The Memory Alive - Our Shared Responsibility”.
• Competitors must create a design for a 50cm by 70cm poster with a minimum DPI of 300. A minimized electronic copy in A4 size with DPI 72 must be submitted by the closing date for entries. Please, submit electronic copies of your designs to the UN Information Centre in Moscow at unic.moscow@unic.org.
• All posters must be the independent work of the artist.
• One poster per entry: Multiple Poster Sets as single entries are not permitted.
• Competitors may submit more than one entry.
• Competitors are asked to submit an accompanying short description to each submitted design (no more than 100 words) in English, explaining the motivation behind their poster design.
• There are no limitations on layouts, color schemes, design or language, although if a language is used in the design, English is preferred.
Designs deemed by the local judges as offensive will be disqualified outright.
Submission of semi-finalist posters: UNICs or local organisers should submit the top 20 designs judged at the local level to international.poster@yadvashem.org.il specifying “International Poster Competition 2017” in the Subject Box. The email should incorporate the 100-word description, and the full name, nationality and email address of the entrant.
Competition Prizes:
The final judging of the top 12 designs will take place in November 2017
• The Best Design as per the judges’ decision will receive a $500 Prize
• The Second Best Design, as per the judges’ decision will receive a $300 Prize
• The Third Best Design, as per the judges’ decision will receive a $200 Prize
The Judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The designers of the 12 top-ranked posters will be notified of their win by 10 November 2017.
Participation in the competition denotes permission to the project managers to use and publicize the posters for educational and public use after the competition ends. The artists will not receive payment for this use. The 12 winning posters become the property of the project and will be displayed extensively from 27 January 2018 (The International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust). Posters will be copied and re-distributed at the project organizers' discretion. The 12 winning posters will be affixed with the names and countries of the designers, logos of all participating organizations and sponsors. A lesson plan will be created based on the top 3 designs by Yad Vashem. While designers may be invited to attend the launches both nationally and internationally, transportation costs will not be covered. If the prize winners do not provide adequate bank details to the participating organizations, they cannot receive their prizes.
