UNICEF’S EVOLVING ROLE IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION
UNICEF and the Russian Federation are in talks to develop a new form of partnership following the conclusion of UNICEF’s country programme and the closure of the country office in the Russian Federation.
UNICEF’s role in Russia has undergone a continuous evolutionover the past two decades. It started as a liaison office, then became a representation office managing a country programme of cooperation with the Russian Federation. InJanuary 2012 a partnership office was created, directly managed by the UNICEF Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States in Geneva.
The aim of the new engagement is to leverage Russia’s growing role in international development, in particular by sharing Russian knowledge, expertise and experience internationally and its growing public and private sector resources to realize child rights regionally and globally.
