This is not an easy mission, since there are many
UN agencies working in the Russian Federation.. An
oldest UN presence in the Russian Federation is the United Nations Information
Centre in Moscow established in 1948. Most of the other UN entities were set
up in the Russian Federation in the beginning of 1990s. Our goal has been, and
still is, to assist Russia in adjusting to the new economic and social order.
These agencies have successfully accumulated operational experience in different
areas, in particular, in the implementation of the
UN Millennium Development Goals - a set of specific and measurable targets aimed
at reducing poverty; promoting good governance, improving public health, combating
HIV/AIDS, ensuring employment and environmental sustainability as well as rendering
humanitarian assistance and co-operation in overcoming of natural disasters.
Each of the UN Agencies represented in Russia has a main “corporate”
web site. At the same time, most of their Moscow-based Offices have built their
own internet-resources, including those in Russian, which are primarily intended
for you. On their web sites you would find information on those Agencies’ projects,
vacancies available, have an access to global UN web sites, news and publications.
You could be referred to these global and local sites from our portal - just
click the page of an agency you are interested in.
In addition, the UN system of agencies in Russia has common publication
available on-line, namely
“UN in Russia.”
The scope of our activity is rather wide - from protection of
architecture monuments to emergency assistance programmes. One should also bear
in mind that more than one agency are involved in Programme
areas such as poverty, environment, education, gender, HIV/AIDS. If you
are looking for materials on these issues, we suggest that you to have a look
at the summary of each agency’s activities, as well as those of
theme groups.
The main language of our site is Russian. We will continue posting
as much new materials as possible in Russian, in order to make information about
the activities of UN Agencies in Russia easily accessible for the local audiences.
Finally, I would like to emphasize that we count on your feedback
- whether it is your direct message to info@unrussia.ru

a polite phrase - we really hope that this web site will help the UN system
