The Office of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in the Russian Federation is seeking suitably qualified applicants (male or female) for the following vacancy in its office in Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia)
RADIO COMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN
General responsibilities:
• Assist and advise Field Security Coordination Officer on all communication problems and issues;
• Operate and maintain all UNDSS communications equipment including VHF and HF radios, landline and satellite telephones, facsimile;
• Handling of all documents concerning communication equipment, radio and frequency licenses;
• Maintain appropriate records and registers;
• Prepare reports about communication (including analyzing of communications needs and trends);
• Monitor radio communication on daily basis to ensure compliance with UN communication procedures;
• Provide training on use of communication equipment and procedures;
• In connection with emergency communication should travel to Republics of Ingushetia and Chechnya
• Carry out other duties as directed.
Qualifications and personal characteristics:
Essential
Russian citizen; higher education, communication specialist education; minimum 3 years work in communication field; excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Russian; a high level of personal integrity and ethics; proven computer skills; ability to work effectively alone and in a team; excellent organizational skills.
Desirable
Tertiary qualifications: computer specialist, research skills.

2. Appointments will initially be for a 3-month probationary period with extensions subject to satisfactory service, the availability of funding and the continuation of the UN mandate in NC.
